The famous film director, Alfred Hitchcock, once said:
“To make a great film you need three things – the script, the script, the script.”
He knew that any film would only be as good as its basic raw material – the script. That’s true for any film, not just for a Hollywood blockbuster.
So what’s the secret to writing the perfect film script for your video?
The answer is on the tip of your tongue
One of the most powerful ways to draft a compelling script is to write like you talk.
American screenwriter, Elmore Leonard agrees:
“If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.”
It’s weird how we become formal when we write. Perhaps it’s the result of too many essays at school trying to impress the teacher with big words and complex themes!
So, find a more natural, simpler way to say things. Cross out the big words and replace them with easier ones.
It helps to speak the words first and then write them down. Did you know that you can use the dictate button to dictate your script directly into the app? Here’s how.
Write your script in your own personal style. It should suit your unique way of saying things.
Charlie Kaufman – the screenwriter of hit films like Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – tells us:
“Everything I’ve written is personal – it’s the only way I know how to write.”
